Day Of Dead Celebration

We went to our Unitarian Universalist congregation. It was a Day of the Dead celebration. It was really interesting.

Day of the Dead is a traditionally a hispanic holiday to honor those dead ancestors before us. The spin that was put on it during the service was that dying does not transfer your soul into any new location for eternal rest. Nothing happens to our soul.

Instead, what happens, is you decompose. You become part of the environment. You see, that's great, though. We become flowers, trees, the entire environment. We become animals. We will never be reborn because the mold was broken when we were born. But, instead we should honor our ancestors by remembering how great they were.

I then had the thought that immortality is granted in two ways:
  1. By our good works.
  2. By passing our DNA to progeny.

I don't think we'll be immortal in any real sense. We won't be resurrected and live forever in some blissful state of eternal glory. That seems like fairy tail. Instead, we can make a real difference in this life by doing good things.

Purpose

This blog is supposed to detail new spiritual insights that I have. Here, I hope to give a brief and incomplete history of where I come from.

I don't believe in prayer. I've had instances in my life where God did not talk to me when I needed him to. God did not help me when I really needed him to.

I don't know that I believe in God. There's really been no reason for me to believe.
